Comprising members of Eskimo Joe, Bob Evans, Jebediah and Josh Pike – I’d recon its pretty safe to say that we can call these here Basement Birds a home grown super-group.
Had the pleasure of meeting and shooting these lovely (albeit sleep deprived and slightly disheveled) lads in an insanely tight 15 minute window between scenes while they were shooting their music video for ‘Not the One’.
Capturing the X-Press Magazine cover shot and op-ed was the result of about 4 hours of driving time in what ended up being a magical mystery tour out to woop woop (or an area also know as somewhere out past the Perth hills)with X-Press Editor Julian at the beginning of May to quickly snap and interview the lads for today’s issue – coinciding with the release of their debut first album Friday 16th July. Yep, that’s this Friday kids!

International Aperture Awards 2009

Just been informed that I’ve scored myself a bronze award at this years International Aperture Awards. Hell yess! 
The image was an additional one I edited up from an editorial shoot I did for the a touch of wool II project publication which featured as part of the Perth Fashion Festival line-up this year. Designing under her label Skankihoo Designs, Priera Russell’s work embodies a sexy sassy retro vibe and so the shots I chose to make it into the publication had more of the atmosphere / image appropriate to the designer’s identity as well as colour palette that gave the spread more design continuity and therefore worked better from a graphic design perspective and so this image didn’t make the cut for these reasons.

mmmm… fascinating

A headpiece / fascinator I made for a shoot ended up with a feature in a local magazine this month. Woohooo tearsheet! Its the blue / black feather one at the top of the page.
Shoot I’d initially designed it for was the ‘Nameless here for evermore’ series shot back in December 2008 featuring skirt / corset design by the awesomely talented Laura Geddes, modeled (and with makeup) by Countess Grotesque.
Location took me heaps of internet research and three 1.5 hour car rides to find – but it was well worth it . If anyone is interested in trying finding it, I’m fairly sure its completely knocked down now as there were bulldozers there while we were shooting. Such a shame!
